The Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) between the USA and Sri Lanka- The 14th Council Meeting

We have received information from Additional Secretary to the President, Strategic Affairs Division regarding the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) between the USA and Sri Lanka which was signed on the 25th of July 2002 with the aim of expanding trade and investment between the parties, trade facilitation and encouraging tech innovation etc. 

The Joint Council is the agreed platform to discuss about economic concerns under TIFA (essentially related to Trade & Investment) in the next council meeting which will be scheduled to be held on the 24th May 2023. During this meeting, it is expected to make this a platform to effectively bring new initiatives for discussion about Sri Lanka’s Trade and Investment related proposals with USA and concerns raised by the USA.

In this regard, Additional Secretary to the President, Strategic Affairs Division has been requested to provide the following submissions under each sector,

1.      Identified Trade and Investment related concerns with the USA under specific sectors.

2.      Proposals for productive engagement with the USA.

It is expected that the proposals and identified concerns will be sent to NCE (nce@nce.lk) by 25th April 2023.
