NCE Milestones

Key milestones in the development of the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka.

  1. 1986

    Establishment of NEA as the only trade chamber in Sri Lanka serving exclusively the export sector.

  2. 1992

    Commenced publication of the “Sri Lanka Exporter” magazine, the only trade magazine of export products and services of Sri Lanka.

  3. Since 1992

    Annual Export Awards held without interruption to encourage and recognise the achievements of Sri Lankan exporters.

  4. Since 2008

    The Department of Commerce of Sri Lanka has authorised NCE to issue Certificates of Origin.

  5. 2009

    Established a partnership with Indexpo Certification Ltd.

  6. 2009

    Established a partnership with the National Cleaner Production Centre, Sri Lanka.

  7. 2011

    Appointment of private-sector trade representatives to foreign countries.

  8. 2011

    NCE celebrated the 25th anniversary of its establishment.

  9. 2013

    Commenced a programme to link producers in the North with exporters in the South, supported by the International Labour Organization.

  10. 2014

    Commenced the Potential Exporter programme to assist producers in the SME sector.

  11. 2014

    Establishment of the National Institute of Exports (NIOE), an independent entity conducting export-related professional courses.

  12. 2016

    NCE celebrated the 30th anniversary of its establishment.

  13. 2016

    NCE obtained Quality Management System certification in compliance with ISO 9001:2015.

  14. 2017

    NCE celebrated the 25th Annual Export Awards.

  15. 2018

    NCE launched the 100th issue of the “Sri Lanka Exporter” magazine.

  16. 2019

    Mrs Ramya Weerakoon

    NCE elected the first female President of the Chamber, Mrs Ramya Weerakoon.

  17. 2019

    Certificate of Ethical Trading logo

    NCE launched the Certificate of Ethical Trading (CET), becoming the first trade chamber in Sri Lanka to award certification for ethical trading practices.

  18. 2022

    NCE celebrated the 30th Annual Export Awards.

  19. 2023

    Plaque marking the NCE Secretariat's move to its own premises, dated 9 March 2023

    The NCE Secretariat was relocated to its own premises in Colombo 08.
