NCE against dismantling Walkers Lift

The National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) is seeking the intervention of the President, Ranil Wickremesinghe, to stop the Boat and ship lift (Synchro Lift) constructed at the Mutuwal Fisheries Harbour from being dismantled and auctioned by a bank due to the bankruptcy of the Walkers Ship Yard.

“A Bank is taking action to acquire the assets of Boat and Ship Lift constructed at the Mutuwal Harbour to recover their dues from the company and we seek your intervention in this regard, says President NCE Ravi Jayawardena in a letter to the President.

“This Boat and Ship Lift/ Synchro Lift is used for repair, maintenance and service of small and medium size boats and yachts and other commercial vessels including fishing trawlers. The boat and ship lift (Synchro Lift) constructed at the Mutuwal Fisheries Harbour is the only of its kind available in Sri Lanka.”

When both local and foreign boats and yachts call through Colombo Port City Marina, this facility is very useful to provide repair and maintenance of mentioned items that can bring Foreign Exchange.

“As this project could generate foreign currency to Sri Lanka we urge the relevant authorities to look into this positively.”

Jayawardane says that they are also proposing a solution for this.

“The Chamber of marine Industries of Sri Lanka wish to collaborate and work parallel with the Ministry, CFHC, the said Bank and other authorities to ensure and reactivate the facility at the Mutuwal Fisheries Harbour for the use of the local boat and shipbuilders and related service providers to earn much needed FOREX to the country and also settle due owns to the bank.”
